Zen and the Art of Cleaning
There are a number of books that are quite popular at the moment about the minimalism and organizing trend that is sweeping (pun intended) the globe. A friend who moves a lot put me on to one. Now that I am up against moving to another continent and into a smaller space I have been giving it an honest try. I have packed my car up several times over with bags of clothes and boxes of shoes for Goodwill. It is quite liberating. My take on it can be summed up by the William Morris quote:
Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.
I’ve been trying to tackle a room at a time but it seems as though the clutter multiplies at night when I’m not looking. I keep putting off the studio because there is decades of paper and miscellaneous knick knacks that I fear I will never be able to get rid of. And maybe that is the one room that is not meant to be minimized. It may all be beautiful in it’s crazy chaotic mess. I think I will save that room for last and just pack it all up as is.
