Secret Decoder Ring
I decided to use an old baby knit and crochet pattern book for the trim around Lib’s quilt. When thinking about Lib I always remember her working on a quilt and to me she always seemed to be carrying around the absence of her daughter.
I was a bit of a sickly child so I spent more time than most indoors with the adults. The women always seemed to be making something. The pattern books always intrigued me. They were written in some secret code that I could not decipher: k1, p2. I would sit and crochet endless chains of yarn while I watched them or draw in the other room all the while trying to figure out what was written in the secret code…
I cut up the strips needed for the edges. I have finally realized that It is much better to just melt a bit of medium on the hot box and place the strips of book pages in it than to heat up the electric wok full of medium and dip the pages.
It’s faster, uses less electricity, heats the place up less and coats the strips with less medium. Better all around. I tell you by the time I’ve finished this project I’ll have figured it all out…
