Guiding Principles
The trim pieces are all prepared and I removed all of the old ones from the quilt. I did a test with one of the new and improved catalog pieces and found that they are now strong enough to hold up to having the ribbon woven through them.
I had to give some thought as to whether to resurrect the ribbon work or not. I found that I liked the simpler look of the plain catalog pages around the quilt and was concerned that the ribbon work would distract from the design of the quilt itself. In the end I decided that this project was more about the meaning than the aesthetics of the pieces. It was more important to reflect the work that Cassie had done in her lifetime that had originally inspired this piece.
Fortunately I had saved the original guide that I had created for making the cuts in the trim pieces:
Yes, the geek in me had a really fun time figuring out how to make the cut marks just perfect and marking out the guide. I figured the cuts needed to be ½ long, right though in the middle of the trim pieces and precisely an inch apart. I love math.
