Finished?

I finished crocheting together the medallions on the side and hung Grace’s quilt up. I’ve been staring at it for a while trying to decide if it is done or not.

I’ll probably keep it there on the wall in my living room for a while until I make my mind up. I do this with a lot of my work. Hang it on the wall somewhere where I will walk by it often and see it in different light until suddenly one day I decide either ‘it is done’ or ‘it needs X’.

I’ve decided that I will attack the rest of the quilts in chronological order, for lack of any other logical order to address them in. So that means next up is Cassie Hodgman, one of my other great grandmothers, my mother’s other grandmother. I didn’t know Cassie, or Nan as she was known, so I look forward to learning more about her over the next few weeks as I bother my mother for stories about her.

I plan to base her quilt on this christening gown that she sewed by hand:

ChristeningGown

My grandfather and mother were both christened in this gown. Here is a photo of my grandfather holding my mother on her christening day in the gown:

I’ve been doing a lot of research on the use of ribbons in quilts. I’m enjoying being back in R&D mode!
