It Runs in the Family
Another fairly unproductive week due to a migraine that wouldn’t respond to my medication. I have a part-time day job so I only have a few dedicated days per week to work on my artwork. When those days are spent curled up in a ball on the sofa with a migraine it is particularly frustrating. Particularly on the heels of the conference when I was full of so much enthusiasm for the project.
My migraines tend to last 3 days. The first day I was at work and muddled through with drugs. The second day the drugs stopped working and I tried to just sleep as much as I could and survive the day. By the third day (today) I am at least at the point when I can read a little and think some. Again I marvel at the women in my family before me who survived these without the luxury of medication or being able to just curl up on the sofa and do nothing.
It did give me a great opportunity to think about the project, reassess where I’m at and plan out what I want to do in the future. I did a good a bunch of research on ribbon quilts (there are a surprising number of images online of quilts made from horse jumping ribbons – who knew?). During one of my trips up to my mother’s house in Veazie I took some pictures of the christening gown that my great-grandmother Hodgman made for my grandfather. My mother was also christened in the gown.
It has some wonderful ribbon work on it so I was thinking I would add some ribbon work to the quilt that I did for the quilt for my great-grandmother Hodgman. Since reading and online research was all I was up for today this seemed a good day for it. (If I needed a reminder of why I don’t attempt any artwork with a migraine I got it when I foolishly attempted to heat up soup last night and broke two soup bowls just getting them out of the cupboard – Paul quickly sent me back to the sofa and cleaned everything up). Speaking of the sofa – I think I’ve hit my limit for the day…
