Busy Busy
So busy in fact that it seemed to have slipped my mind that yesterday was Friday (ok that could be my advancing age or just general flightiness).
Back to last week at FIMAV. The Sound Installations were interesting as always this year, though somewhat less then photogenic. There was a rotating microphone that caught feedback from speakers playing the main theme of Swan Lake courtesy of Canadian artist Adam Basanta.
There was a dome made out of old broken down satellite dishes attempting to transmit a soundtrack by Eryck Abecassis that you could walk through installed outdoors by Quebec artist Phil Allard. The shadows made by this were wonderful.
A video installation indoors tracked the sites and sounds of the unpronounceable Icelandic volcano days before it’s eruption. The artist Francois Quevillon is alsofrom Quebec. Here is the video on vimeo if you are interested.
My favorite this year was at the library. They have a room there that they can make completely dark for these purposes and they have had some wonderful pieces here in the past. This year was no exception. There was a wonderful kaleidoscopic video installation by Nathalie Bujold. You view it here on vimeo.
So back home now and heading down to CT to celebrate my MIL’s birthday. I’ve been thinking about all the women in my life who like the Fairy God Mothers in Cinderella have given me such wonderful gifts that have made me who I am. I want to thank Marion for giving me the greatest gift of all, her son.
